THE DENYCE GRAVES FOUNDATION'S SHARED VOICES PROGRAM OFFERS IN-DEPTH TRAINING IN ITS FOURTH YEAR
To launch the fourth year of its flagship initiative, Shared Voices, the Denyce Graves Foundation presents a Classical Vocal Arts Symposium to participants in their fourth program year. This immersive experience offers an intensive, one-of-a kind opportunity for classical vocal arts and industry engagement, to give aspiring classical singers the knowledge and tools to become successful.
SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW
Amplifying the foundational music training provided at conservatories and HBCUs, the Symposium provided students access to information about how careers in the classical vocal arts develop and focused on particular aspects of a singer’s career, including vocal health, mental health, and physical fitness.

Shared Voices is a ground-breaking collaboration between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and leading conservatories and schools of music in the United States. Inaugurated in September 2022 at the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University, Shared Voices builds on the longstanding connections between HBCUs and conservatories by working with institutions that are committed to preparing classical vocal artists and to addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in a novel way. The Denyce Graves Foundation was founded in 2021 with the goal of achieving diversity, equity and inclusion across the musical spectrum. Through strategic partnerships and cross-industry alignments, including with HBCUs, conservatories and schools of music, The Library of Congress, The Metropolitan Opera, and The Smithsonian Institution, among others, the Foundation champions educational outreach, research, new works of art, and philanthropic investment in young classical vocal artists of world-class talent from all backgrounds.
